Wirral AC offers a wide range of age appropriate training sessions covering all athletic disciplines.  If you would like to arrange a trial for any sessions, please CONTACT US for additional details.

Foundation

For young athletes aged 7.5 to 11 / 12 who are new to athletics.

Our foundation program is THE perfect introduction to all different athletics disciplines of Run, Jump, Throw.
From here, our athletes can then progress to one or more of our development groups (Sprints, Hurdles, Jumps, Throws, and Endurance) once they reach the age of 10/11.

The club also offers Sportshall sessions over the winter (Oct to March) to any athletes up to age 15.  Those sessions provide a competition entry point for running, jumping and throwing for young athletes aged 7.5+, and it’s a springboard into the more traditional forms of track & field.  A fantastic opportunity for any children to get involved in athletics in a super fun and inclusive way!!

Development groups

For athletes aged 11 years-old and over.
Wirral AC as a proven track record of developing athletes to compete at all levels in one or multiple disciplines (multi-eventing).  Our experienced coaching team is committed to help develop well-rounded athletes and to encourage every member to explore and enjoy a wide range of events – from sprints and jumps to throws and endurance disciplines – helping athletes discover their strengths and broaden their skills.
Whether you are new to athletics or looking to refine your performance, we believe in building versatility, confidence, and a lifelong love for the sport.

Sprints

For athletes who are interested in further developing their speed and sprinting technique.
Progression from our FOUNDATION program or for any athletes aged 11+ (including adults).

Main Training Sessions: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & Saturday

Hurdles

For athletes who are interested in learning or improving their hurdles technique.
We have groups for all abilities from beginners to advanced specialising in short sprint hurdles (60m to 100m) up to long hurdles (300/400m).
Athletes in our endurance program can also eventually progress and get introduced to Steeplechase (aged 13+).

Winter Blocks: Tuesday & Thursday (Indoors)

Endurance

For athletes aged 11+ who want to explore middle to longer distance running, including track (800/1500m), road and XC running.
Our training sessions are expertly designed by our endurance coaches and aimed at building stamina and improving speed for all endurance runners from 800m to marathon distances.
Please note that our FOUNDATION program also includes endurance sessions (track and grass) for our younger athletes.

Throws

We offer a development pathway for any athletes who have chosen Throws as their preferred disciplines.

Jumps

Long Jump – High Jump – Triple JumpPole Vault

Young athletes will be able to try Long Jump in our FOUNDATION program and eventually progress to our development group once they reach 11/12 years-old.
We also have a fantastic development pathway for High Jumpers, Triple Jumpers and Pole Vaulters.
